Kinda I guess. I feel like I could still see a lot of plot points. I wish the trailer would have left out what the aliens look like and the whole talking scene at the end.
I Haven’t seen it but let me take a guess.
Aliens come, but their pretty peaceful compared to what we normally expect when you mention alien invasion.
I saw multiple people say they aren’t welcome and that things “got bad”
So context clues from that mean they’re probably more of a nuisance than a threat. If they were an outright thread like in War of the worlds you would not be having calm people just being like “Yea I don’t like them here” as if they’re talking about your local band of gypsies.
So by that:
Aliens come to earth, but can’t leave even though they just want to go home. They become a huge public nuisance and human tensions rise because of it. Some event* sets off the military to act causing them to start killing the aliens.
Viewer will sympathize with the aliens a bit because they just want to go home, which makes this less black and white.
If that’s the case then I’m almost certain a main human char will be a sympathetic supporter to help the aliens to help us the viewer become attached to the aliens. They need to do that because there is going to be a twist at the end that pulls the emotional rug from under us.
* The event will probably go 1 of 2 ways. Either the Aliens fuck up and kill a bunch of people, or the gov’t staged it to look that way as a reason to kill the aliens with public support.
Prediction: The part about the main human char (If there is one) connecting with the aliens will be something like he connects with a kid alien or some shit. I don’t see them going romance route since the aliens are ugly, and I think the buddy buddy route is a bit too cliche for the tone this trailer set. So it will be something a bit more obscure.
Please let me know how close I am. I plan on watching it in about 8 hours from the time of this post.
He promised to come back!! 😐
I’d really love a sequel…
I was super interested in this movie when I saw the trailer. I’m disappointed I never got around to seeing it
IMO it’s still always best to walk into a movie knowing little to nothing about it at all. Maybe it’ll be great, maybe meh, maybe it’ll suck. But at least it’ll all be fresh.
Leaving something to be desired is a negative phase suggesting it was poor or lacking just FYI. I get your meaning from context but thought I’d point it out.
I loved this film personally
Best example? **Cloverfield** had SUCH a huge impact, people were discussing for MONTHS what the thing and plot was. From a Godzilla reboot to Power Rangers and whatnot. They were analyzing every frame and sound bit. The marketing campaign was the best I’ve ever seen. “It’s a lion!”

WTF.. I literally just watched this movie!
The art:entertainment ratio used to be better in a varying number of big budget films every year, with some even being artistic. Now big budget movies are seen as nothing more than entertainment products therefore trailers are more like car commercials showing all aspects of the product.
The whole mindset towards movies has changed: in the past many people wanted to be surprised and challenged, now many moviegoers just want to get their balls tickled by buying a pandering entertainment product which is a known quantity with telling trailers and metrics informing their purchasing decisions.
I recall that the first trailer did not have subtitles on the alien. It made the trailer even more mysterious and sinister. Great film. 🙂
Yeah i remember knowing very little of the plot while knowing just enough about the premace to be super interested in it
This is one of the few films I’ve seen that I absolutely loved but probably never will rewatch again. It was a powerful film but incredibly sad to me.
aaaaaaaaand, I am watching again district 9 for Nth time tonight.
I feel like this is one of the all-time greatest “Holds Up Over Time” movie ever released. Loved it then, love it now.
In my top 10 of all time. If district 10 comes out an angel will get its wings.
I’m still waiting for the sequel damnit
First time watched District 9 I had subtitles disabled. I was not aware that we should understand the aliens.
This was one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies of all time. It was so good that I found it difficult to watch at times, as it tweaks at your human heartstrings strongly, and often. It confronts you with your own humanity.
It’s right up there with Bladerunner, in my view.
I did not recall the trailer, but it’s amazing in that it doesn’t give the entire story away, it isn’t vacuous bullshit, it doesn’t show every action scene in the film, and it’s not loaded with woke garbage.
On top of that, it’s actually intriguing.
And Hollywood wonders why I pay to see about 2 movies a year, these days.
[Here’s the original short film.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1hI8c8HzxU)
IIRC, Peter Jackson saw it and wanted to help get money so Blomkamp could make the movie. Sharlto Copley(actor for Wikus) is in it too.
I hate trailers nowaday that spoil the entire movie. Result I’m not watching trailer anymore therefore not hyped.
Seriously, if you haven’t seen this movie, watch it now!
My personal favorite was the original Matrix movie. The trailers gave nothing away. I remember leaving the theater going “I need to see that again. I’m not sure what I just watched.”
This made me a massive fan of Neill Blomkamp. I had to have watched the trailer + the movie over a hundred times.
Another great trailer from that time was Terminator Salvation.
I want a counter on how many fade-to-black transitions there are
The movie was ambiguous and left the sequel to be desired.
Damn, I love this movie. I really wish he would do a sequel. I was hoping Elysium would live up to District 9 but it wasn’t even close.
Where are you at Chris?!?
District 9 is one of two movies I watched twice back to back. This movie is one of my all time favorites.
ctrl + F Cloverfield
Top 5 Sci-fi film for me, god I love that film.
I didn’t read the title or video text, and though it was a District 10.

damn you.
Still mad this guy never got a chance to direct the Halo movie.
I think the strength of this trailer, and a lot trailers like it, is that it tells you the elevator pitch, but doesn’t tell you the plot.
So you learn that aliens have landed and have co-habitated with humanity, and that’s the underlying concept of the film, but if you watch the movie, that is not the plot.
The trailer acts as a way for you to get enticed in, but does not tell you what will actually take place. Same thing happened in cloverfield and inception and I think those films had tremendous buzz as a result (in fact, inception became famous for its horn because of just how much the trailer was talked about).
Sharlto Copely’s best work. He’s such an underrated actor.
If you can predict the future, please let me know what next weeks lottery numbers will be.
2009… where the fuck has the time gone! It only seems like yesterday that it was released.
**”PETER JACKSON PRESENTS**

^(A film by neill blomkamp”)

Kind of a slap in the face, but I supposed they had to do it for marketing. He is better known.
It’s hardly ambiguous.
Watched this whole movie from a download that didn’t have the subtitles for the aliens. I thought it odd that they had so much alien dialogue without explanation. Served be right.
Now that is a proper trailer.
why do we always get sequels for shit movies and not for movies like this?
This movie also had a viral marketing campaign. Signs were put up in major cities on public transport, citing “for human use only”

We Neill Blomkamp to make a film that bombs massively so they put him in movie jail. Then the only project they will let him make will be District 10. And then he’ll do it.
They are not WELCOME …
They are not ACCEPTED …
They are not **SUBTLE** …
I love this movie so much but it makes me so sad so I haven’t been able to watch it after the first viewing. It’s truely a masterpiece that very few others have come close to (children of men)
